Native Washingtonian 101: Meet me under the clock

My mother grew up in Washington in the 1940s and 1950s and often told me about the Hecht’s clock tower. I finally wandered over to 6th & F Sts. N.W. to see it. Sure enough, it hovers over the street keeping perfect time.

Mom says it was a busy shopping area and the clock served as a meeting point. It wasn’t hard to find and convenient. Today, it’s a busy intersection near the Verizon Center.
